Abstract
Robotics is expected to support disaster response and recovery and to promote disaster prevention as an advanced solution. Recent application of robotic systems proved their effectiveness and clarified various issues to be solved.
ImPACT-TRC is a project that focuses on research into robust robot technologies for accessibility, sensing & recognition, recovery, and environmental compatibility so that robots actually work well in real disasters. Five types of robots, i.e. UAVs, construction robots, serpentine robots, legged robots and cyber rescue canine, are being developed with advanced visual, auditorial & haptic sensing, robust actuators, mechanisms & control, human interface, and robust wireless communication. A field evaluation meetings is held periodically for the milestones of R&D. It shows the applicable technologies to the users and industry to promote disruptive innovation in disaster response, recovery and preparedness as well as new field robot business.
In this keynote speech, recent technical achievement and application to disasters and industries will be introduced.

Abstract
“AIRobot + AIoT” Platform for Smart Everything
Artificial Intelligence, AI, will contribute $ 15.7 trillion US dollars to the world economy by 2030. All major companies including Google, Amazon, Facebook, Apple, Intel, Microsoft, Qualcomm, nVidia, Baidu, Alibaba, and Tencent are competing on this area.
AI has been implemented in the area of Service Robots but not so much in the Industrial Robots. We are expecting AI to be the core for all kinds of robots. We called it “AIRobot”. In the recent years, AI and Internet of things (AIoT) have been taking off by some of the high tech companies. “AIRobot+AIoT” can be a new platform or total solution for smart home, smart office, smart factory, smart city, smart country, and smart world.
In this presentation, we will use “Vision” as the key element to have “AIRobot+AIoT” married together by using Core Vision Processor as the platform trying to be applied on Smart Everything.

Societal Dissemination of Robot Technology for Disaster Prevention and Response
Prof. Hajime Asama
University of Tokyo
Japan
Abstract
The Great Eastern Japan Earthquake and Tsunami occurred in March 11, 2011, and as a result, the accident of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant occurred. Various types of remote-controlled machines have been used for the accident response and decommissioning to perform diverse missions in the high-radiation environment. However, just after the accident, the robot technology developed so far could not be utilized smoothly in the emergent situation.
It is important to prepare for or prevent from any possible disasters in future by having practical means for disaster, which include not only for the possible accidents of nuclear power plants or chemical plants, but also for accidents of social infrastructures, such as bridges, tunnels, dams, etc., and for any natural disasters, such as earthquakes, typhoons, volcano explosions, landslides, etc.
In order to provide the means for the disaster prevention and response and improve the productivity improvement of monitoring, inspection and maintenance, many projects to develop RT for disaster prevention and response and activities on its societal dissemination have been ongoing in Japan, including SIP (Cross-ministerial Strategic Innovation Promotion Program) and ImPACT (Impulsing Paradigm Change through Disruptive Technologies Program).
In this presentation, robot and remotely-controlled systems technology for accident response and decommissioning of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Stations which have been utilized so far are introduced as well as any other RT for disaster response, and inspection and maintenance of social infrastructures. Then, the issues are discussed how we should prepare for the future possible disasters and accidents, including not only technological development but also maintenance of technology, training of operators, establishment of mockups and test fields, and political strategy. Especially, the plans to promote societal dissemination of RT for disaster response, which are proposed by Council of Competitiveness-Nippon (COCN), and various recent trends towards their realization promoted by Japanese Government are introduced.

Fast Simulation-based Optimization for Modern Complex Systems
Prof.Chun-Hung Chen
Dept. of Systems Engineering & Operations Research
George Mason University
USA
Abstract
In the light of Industry 4.0 and systems integration, the new-generation plants should operate with real-time data and constantly-revised forecast. Simulation is capable of modeling the complexity and uncertainty of modern systems.A dynamic system controller powered by simulation optimization can maintain the system performance at a high level by seamlessly optimizing the system configuration according to the real-time information. The efficiency of simulation optimization is critical to its success. We will present the state-of-the-art and some future research directions. One example is Optimal Computing Budget Allocation (OCBA), initially developed by the speaker. OCBA is a framework that aims to maximize the overall simulation and sampling efficiency for finding a good decision given a limited computing time. Another promising approach for further enhancing the efficiency is multi-fidelity/multi-scale simulation optimization by utilizing real-time data.
